goodbye 2009

by Stacy

While I’m not a resolution-making kind of girl, I do like to think about where I’ve been and where I want to go.

Five years ago tonight, my now-husband proposed to me as fireworks went off over the ocean in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I, naturally, smacked him in the arm and called him a jackass before saying yes.

Last year in my personal blog I wrote, “But I do hope that this will finally be the year we move like we have been planning for what seems like forever. The rest of the year sort of hinges on that major step.”

And we did! It was a big change, but it’s a good thing for my husband’s career, an opportunity for me, and definitely sets the tone for my goals moving into 2010. The year was full of ups (some great work experiences) and downs (my grandma passing away in the spring).

And, of course, I started blogging here!

The top five posts this year (by popularity):

  1. one-pot pasta
  2. caramel-pecan sticky buns
  3. apricot-filled brioche
  4. lavash crackers
  5. plum cake

My blogging goals for 2010:

  • Use more recipes from my cookbooks
  • Take better food photos
  • Improve my photography by doing a scheduled photo project or challenge
  • Post more comments on blogs I enjoy
  • Finally get my blogroll up on the site
  • Reorganize my categories and links to make recipes easier to find

As for personal goals, I would like to actually meet some people and make connections in San Diego. If that means getting another job (I’m staying on at my part-time work-from-home gig but that could be sporadic at times), volunteering or interning somewhere, or taking a class, I want to get more involved in our new community. Another area I would like to explore is the state of California. I had never been here before, so now I want to visit San Francisco, some of the national parks, maybe Napa Valley, and other sights that California has to offer. Plus, they need my tax money. I’m enjoying my subscription to Sunset magazine which is all about living in the West.

Do you set resolutions or goals? Are you glad to see 2009 go? What are you looking forward to this year?

Sad to see another year go yet glad to welcome a ‘fresh’ start. My first intention (goal) for 2010 is to make a list of intentions! =)

Happy New Year!

It’s good to make your goal attainable, right? When I make “to-do” lists, if they’re long, I always add one or two things I’ve already finished so I can cross them off right away. =)

Happy New Year!

2010 will be an exciting year for my family, I hope. Personally, I hope to expand our recipe repertoire (something this blog will help us with, I think) and delve into some new types of crafting (starting with quilting). Happy New Year to your family!

Since I am also hoping to expand my repertoire, I hope I can help! =)

Ooh, I’m excited to see your quilting endeavors. A friend and I made a quilt as a wedding gift a few years ago, and I’d like to try one of my own, but it’s a big project to take on. Good luck and happy new year!

Happy New Year, Stacy. Because I do love my adopted state of California, I applaud your desire to explore this beautiful place. Don’t underestimate the attractions in Los Angeles. There is a lot more there than just Hollywood Blvd and Universal City. LA is full of parks, biking and hiking trails, and funky little communities. I have subscribed to Sunset for years and thoroughly enjoy most of the mag every month. Yay for 2010!

Happy New Year!

LA is the only other CA city I have visited so far — twice since we moved — and I haven’t even been to Hollywood! What really impressed me was how long Sunset has been around. If I had read similar information in a national publication before I moved, I probably would have skipped it, so I’m finding it to be a good resource for a transplant like me. =)

Thanks, Erin! Your site looks fantastic, btw. =)

I just did the top 5 posts by popularity (edited to reflect that). Maybe at the end of 2010 I will feel like I have enough to choose my own!
