spring housekeeping

by Stacy

My to-do list is as long as my arm and I keep thinking of more items to add. It seemed like a good time for a little break to post some recipe-free updates! There’s all sorts of excitement up in these parts.

I’m running a 5K!

running shoesI’m not a runner. I’ve never run a race in my life. I hated running the mile in gym class. My sister (her:me :: gazelle:buffalo) is the runner, I am the … not runner.

But I was so touched by the wonderful care my dad and family received through the hospice program that when I learned about Melisa & Kaye’s Memorial 5K Walk and Fun Run to benefit San Diego Hospice I couldn’t resist signing up to participate in Dad’s memory. Or I can blame Kimberly for running an 8K and making me feel like a whiner if I didn’t sign up.

The “default” goal for an individual is aiming to raise at least $500 by April 2 — that’s only 2 weeks away. I’m already 40% of the way there! If you have even $5 to give, I would really appreciate it.

Please click here for my donation page.

A shout out to the Hobbses, the Spencers, Margaret, and Uncle Bruce (in memory of Dad) and to Liz the Chef (in memory of her mother-in-law) who have generously donated already to support hospice. Thank you so much!

I’m eating Real Food!

This isn’t much different from normal, but I love the month-long challenge from Not Dabbling in Normal. We participated last year and liked it, so I wanted to support their second year.

Because my mom was in town and we wanted to play tourist, our Real Food was reflected less at home and more at restaurants this year. We don’t eat out that much, so with Mom in tow we chose restaurants that also follow a Real Food philosophy. Seasonal menus, locally-sourced produced, organic or sustainable when possible, and always delicious. We had a wonderful time — the three of us managed to gain at least 15 pounds all together! Good thing I’m running that 5K…

I’m going to camp!

Last month my nutrition school had an awesome conference in Miami — while I was working on my show. BlogHer Food 2010 was in not-so-far-away San Francisco — while I was working on a show. Commence moping NOW.

Then a few weeks ago I stumbled upon Camp Blogaway, a mere 2 hour drive from Chez Moi when I don’t have a show scheduled. I took off my crabbypants, got a thumbs-up from the spouse, and signed on up.

I’m really excited to spend the weekend meeting tons of awesome bloggers, learning from the sessions, and spending the weekend in the woods.

I’m certified!

i'm gonna need to see your license...Next week I will complete my training with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and be loosed upon the world as a fully-credentialed Certified Holistic Health Coach. It’s been an amazing year for me doing this program and I’m so excited for what the future holds because of it.

If you’re not caught up on my health coaching endeavors, click here to receive my monthly newsletter, or visit my coaching site at Center Stage Wellness for more information.

Whew! So that’s what’s going on with me. Now I can get back to editing photos for the next few tasty recipes I’ll be posting. And vacuuming. And otherwise procrastinating from putting away my laundry.

What are you excited about or looking forward to? What’s going well right now?

I was happy to donate. I lost my mother and mother-in-law, as well as best friend and our best “couple” friend, all of whom were San Diego Hospice patients. So sorry for the loss of your beloved father. Mine died without hospice but in good hands…Remember, you can walk the 5K! Take time to speak with folks and share your story as you listen to theirs. X0 Liz

5Ks are fun. I have walked the Father Joe’s Thanksgiving Day 5K (in Balboa Park) the past two Thanksgiving Day mornings. Son in law and Marine buddies ran, we walk, but we all end up at the finish line eventually :)

To be fair, I did walk a fundraiser 5K for my mom’s school almost 10 years ago, but I just showed up. I like that thought, that we all end up at the finish line eventually. :-)

And I’m happy that you’re my friends, and not just because you donated. 😉

Yes, please! I’ll email you.

Hey, I don’t like running at all – I just do it because of peer pressure :) I’m doing a 5K for the Arts on April 2, and then I am DONE running…this time I mean it…really…

And – no walking! 3.1 miles is very doable. I always hated the mile run, too, but you’ll be impressed at what you can do. Just don’t try to be fast.

Peer pressure obviously worked on me. ;-p The Arts are a good cause, I validate your choice.

I’ve been playing soccer and doing the elliptical at the gym, so I know I can do it in principle, I’ve just never run en masse as it were. It’s no 8K!

We’ll be in Wisconsin that day, but I’ll be treading the pavement with you in spirit. (And hope to actually see you before then!)
