rainy day CSA

by Stacy

The winter rains are back this week, which is always good and bad. We’re in a pretty bad drought, so the rain is wonderful for that; the landscape brightens up even after just a day of rain.

The winds, though, combined with the wet ground, have blown over a number of trees, many on to roads and some onto cars. There was even a tornado in Orange County!

But I am fine with my “cool weather” vegetables which I have been supplementing with some local citrus from the grocery store.

The only thing not pictured is a bag of spinach because I couldn’t find a place to fit it in.

Pardon the dark pictures — we had very little sunlight today and it was getting closer to sunset than I would normally use for photos!

From left: red chard, red beets, green leaf lettuce, small spaghetti squash, celery, sage, oregano, zucchini, green cabbage, “micro rainbow mix”

Clockwise from top left: red leaf lettuce, lacinato kale, fennel (2), sweet peas (only some shown), and broccoli (only some shown)

In our future I see some soups, salads, and maybe a broccoli and feta pasta. The cabbage may be destined for some Baja-style fish tacos, however, for which I am quite excited.

It will be fun to see what we come up with as my cousin is coming to town tomorrow for a few days (including a day trip to LA) and we might cook! Anyone else want to come over and eat some cabbage?

While I sit here looking out at lots of snow, I’d like to come over for some cabbage…and any other green thing you have there on your table!!
