Time flies when you’re settling in to a new house. We have accomplished so much, but I’ve been spending more time with my drill than I have with my stove. We’re almost ready to take pictures so you can see it!
Preparing for tomorrow’s housewarming party has absorbed most of the week. No rest for the wicked, though, I still popped over to the farmer’s market for our CSA share yesterday.
The peppers are, clockwise from top left: Antohi, hot, purple, and padron
The last photo is beans, tomatoes, and mini white cucumbers.
Menu for the party:
- Pita, carrot sticks, and homemade hummus
- Tortilla chips, salsa, and homemade guacamole
- quinoa salad
- black bean burgers and brats (veg and regular)
- grilled veggies
- cupcakes and/or brownies
- wine and beer
Since I’m in charge of food, my husband is in charge of removing the seeming warehouse-full of cardboard from the living room, buying beer, and tidying the yard:
I thought he was mowing the lawn. Apparently that’s on tomorrow’s list.
What’s your favorite summer party dish? Bonus points if you tell me before 2pm PST on Saturday in case I need to add it to the menu!

Watermelon slices are always a good thing on a hot Minnesota day!
The Veggie-Hating Husband moonlights as the Watermelon-Hating Husband. Sigh.

If you haven’t already made the brownies this recipe brought to our last FBLA meeting is awesome: http://penniesonaplatter.com/2011/06/22/fudgy-black-bean-brownies/ Have a great party!
Thanks, Nancy! I have a mondo pile of dried black beans in the cupboard (uh, like 10 pounds), and brownies don’t sound like a bad way to use some of them up!
