more deals on books

by Stacy

Our parents always read to us, since before I can remember. We used to go to the public library with a brown milk crate and we would fill it up with books to take home. As soon as I could write my name, I got my very own library card (they were beige) and kept on filling up the milk crate.

So it’s a little embarrassing to admit that I got a new library card on Thursday after about 10 years of not having one. In junior high, my purse got stolen with my library card in my wallet. School libraries were just fine for the next while, and then college meant finding scholarly articles online to supplement any book research. No public library needed.

Compared to the other book-related resources I use, the library is an even better deal. I just used book burro to score a used copy of Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life.

However, at the library, I got:
Chez Panisse Café Cookbook
The Cafe Brenda Cookbook: Seafood and Vegetarian Cuisine
The Modern Quilt Workshop (check out their site!)
The Creative Container Gardener

I haven’t been to my book club in months for a variety of reasons, but I hope to get some use out of the cookbooks and some quilt ideas, too! The container garden book I have flipped through briefly, and it may not help me a lot, but I’m sure I’ll learn something. Plus, the library is mere blocks away, so I can always go back.

When is that? After you finish typing up multi-page directions on how to cheat at the Sims?
