I remembered!
Do you ever make impulsive purchases? I imagine most people’s impulse buys are candy in the checkout lane or magazines or something.
Me? Chia seeds.
Yep, like the Chia Pet.
Chia seeds can be used like poppy seeds in baking, added to oatmeal, granola, or smoothies, and according to Wikipedia are sometimes added to fruit juice to create chia fresca.
Like flax seeds, they turn gelatinous when added to liquids. I’ve been tossing a spoonful of them (high in omega-3s and fiber) into my oatmeal. They can also be sprouted and used like any other sprouts.
Have you tried chia seeds? How do you use them? What’s your new food for the week?

Speaking of impulse buys, I bought dried rose buds a couple months ago, and I still have no idea what to do with them. Maybe I should figure something out…
I recently discovered chia seeds too! I put them into my oatmeal, or sprinkle it on my yogurt and granola. It is also great in smoothies if I don’t have any frozen fruit to thicken it up! I have heard of chia pudding, but I haven’t tried it.
I made an impulse buy a couple weeks ago at the farmers market…a basket of fresh red currants! I had zero idea what to do with them, but they were just so pretty! They ended up in some ill-fated gelato. New things are fun to try though!
Do you sprinkle chia seeds on already cooked oatmeal or cook them with the oatmeal. I’ll have to see if they carry them around here.
I have been meaning to get flax seeds for adding to oatmeal, yogurt, etc, but maybe I should try Chia seeds instead! Unfortunately, the grocery stores near me don’t have the best selection of unique foods….
I would like to try chia seeds but I’ve never run across them.
